This is how it look Who drafted preamble
Preamble was drafted by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru this draft was called Objective Resolution. They presented this resolution on 13 December 1946 and was adopted as preamble on 22 January 1947. After then preamble was modified or amended only once through 42nd Amendment Act, in which three words were added Socialist, Secular and Integrity.
Let's look at some of the important words
WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA- It refers that the constitution is made by us not by any external forces. It is enacted by Indians and refers as "on the behalf"
NATURE- Socialist, Sovereign, Democratic, Secular, Republic these words define the nature of Indian constitution.
Objectives- Justice, Equality, Fraternity, Liberty these define the objectives of Indian constitution.
Now lets look at the meaning of these words on which you can say the whole constitution is based
SOVEREIGN: It means that no external interference would be allowed in country's own affairs. An Independent Ideology.
SOCIALIST: It was added through 42nd Amendment act which means to establish a welfare state where there poverty, inequality, ignorance must not have any space. It holds faith in a mixed economy where both private and public sectors co-exist side by side.
SECULAR: It was also added through 42nd Amendment which means that state has no religion. Every religion is allowed to be practiced. Many countries oppose it like Russia and France where you cant practice religion Publicly as well as privately.
DEMOCRACY: This describes that the head of the country is elected by the people of country. Government is chosen by the will of the people through elections.
REPUBLIC: It means that head of the country is elected by the people not nominated by heredity. basically, it is opposite of autocracy(MONARCHY).
The Structure of the Preamble is based on the charter of the United Nations drafted post the World War-II. Both the Indian Preamble and the United Nations Charter start with – “WE THE PEOPLE”.
Preamble has been amended once during emergency
The 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act which also known as the “mini-Constitution” has been the most controversial amendment to the Constitution so far. Significance of this Amendment also comes from the fact that it amended the Preamble of the Constitution for the very first time. It changed the description of India from “SOVEREIGN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC” to a “SOVEREIGN, SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC”, and changed the terms “UNITY OF THE NATION” to “UNITY AND INTEGRITY OF THE NATION”.
The concept of equality, fraternity, liberty in our preamble were adopted from the French motto of French revolution.
